Filming and Engineering for Curious Minds Awards Cermony 2025
The team at CRAFT joined up with Curious Minds in celebrating the fantastic achievement of 397 schools across the country, who are receiving their STEM awards on June 13th.
Over the past year, schools have been completing STEM tasks across all their classes, including a visit to a Discover Centre, of which the CRAFT Maker Space at Mary Immaculate College is one since 2023. Schools could complete activities at Silver, Gold and Platinum level, so there was an entry level for everyone and now there is great excitement building as schools celebrate their successful awards for 2025.
We were thrilled to be chosen to be part of the awards ceremony and filmed a segment in the CRAFT Maker Space in Limerick with children from Our Lady of Lourdes and An Mhodh Scoil. We chose the topic of Energy and had great fun examining wind energy and batteries and then we got even more curious and asked How do toys work that have no batteries or electricty? Hmmm...we examined wind up toys and noticed how they got their energy. But the best part was, we got to make our own toys not using batteries or electricity either!
If you would like to see how we made our cool toy, which is a Spool Racer, check out the handout to show you how to make the basic toy, then you can improve it!

The Curious Minds award is a great way to celebrate schools going above and beyond to teach STEM to their students. We love exploring STEM too in the CRAFT Maker Space through hands-on, interactive workshops.
