Impact and Collaboration
The aim of the CRAFT Maker Space at Mary Immaculate College is to empower children, teachers and the public to embrace innovation, enhance creativity and critical thinking skills. This is achieved through exploration, play, STEAM activities and design, and build opportunities. Play allows both children and adults to explore how things work, consider possibilities and try out ideas and engage in problem solving. The open-ended learning experiences develops the participants’ higher-order thinking, creativity, independence, collaborating and ownership of learning.
The CRAFT Maker Space provides opportunities to learn how science is practiced, to understand the role of science in society, and to promote STEAM related careers.
CRAFT and the CRAFT Maker Space are managed by the staff from Enterprise and Community Engagement in Mary Immaculate College. Having experience in Education, Science, Mathematics, Business and Administration, the team is dynamic and ambitious to deliver quality STEM and STEAM experiences for children, schools, young people, teachers, parents and the wider public.
Together with a range of volunteers from our staff and student population as well as industry partners, we look forward to welcoming you to events and workshops in the CRAFT Maker Space.
At CRAFT Maker Space we are delighted to work with many industries, businesses and local organisations across the Mid-West region. Having their support ensures that our workshops and activities are relevant and up to date with the latest technologies and developments in industry. Working with industry volunteers also provides workshop participants the opportunity to meet with Scientists, Designers, Engineers, Mathematicians and Artists and talk to them about their careers and work.
CRAFT Maker Space is a busy place and we are always on the look out for volunteers to assist us with our workshops. If you are an MIC student and would be interested to gain hands-on, practical experience working with children and sometimes adults working through STEAM challenges and activities, then please contact us for more information on how you can get involved.
